An ISO 14065‑Accredited GHG Verifier, Ready When Your Report Is
Standard Carbon holds ISO 14065:2020 accreditation through the Standards Council of Canada, one of a select group of accredited verification and validation bodies in Canada. We validate and verify environmental information statements so your data holds up to regulators, buyers, and boards.

Our Work Trusted by Teams At

One Thing, Done to Standard
We validate and verify environmental information statements. This is the independent, accredited review that makes your numbers defensible to regulators, buyers, and stakeholders.
Validation & Verification
Independent, third-party review of your GHG assertions and project claims, conducted to the standard your regulator or buyer actually asks for.
- Verification of historical GHG emissions inventories and projects
- Validation of future-looking environmental statements and project claims
- Coverage across provincial and federal programs, including Alberta TIER, BC's GHG regulations, ECCC's OBPS & Clean Fuel Regulations, Quebec's Cap & Trade, and more
- A five-stage process: pre-engagement, engagement, planning, execution, and produce opinion
"Carbon verification is only as valuable as the verifier standing behind it. We built Standard Carbon to be the firm that regulators trust, clients rely on, and markets can count on."
Our Work
CNG Offset Credits Confirmed for Transfer
Verified an offset aggregator's annual CFR credit generation and compliance report across a portfolio of CNG projects.
Agribusiness Emissions Report Accepted by ECCC
Verified an agribusiness's annual OBPS emissions report, assessing stationary combustion, process emissions, and fugitive sources in accordance with ISO 14064-3.
Forest Carbon Project Finalized by the BC Government
Verified carbon stock increases for Indigenous Communities' Improved Forest Management project under BC's Forestry Carbon Offset Protocol.
Common Questions from the SCC Directory
What Does SCC ISO 14065:2020 Accreditation Actually Mean?
It means the Standards Council of Canada has independently assessed and confirmed that our validation and verification processes meet ISO/IEC 17029:2019 and ISO 14065:2020, the standards regulators and buyers look for when they need to trust a verifier's opinion. We're one of the first bodies accredited under this standard in Canada.
What's the Difference Between Validation and Verification?
Validation assesses the reasonableness of the assumptions, limitations, and methods behind a statement about future activities. Verification evaluates historical data and information to confirm it's materially correct and conforms to the applicable criteria. GHG emissions inventories and projects can be verified; forward-looking claims are validated.
How Often Should We Verify Our GHG Inventory?
Most programs and best practice call for annual verification. Doing it every year keeps your emissions trend data usable, keeps you ahead of evolving regulations, and avoids a scramble when a filing deadline or buyer request comes in.
What Federal and Provincial GHG Programs Operate Across Canada?
Coverage spans the federal Output-Based Pricing System and Clean Fuel Regulations, alongside a patchwork of provincial systems: Alberta's TIER, BC's Output-Based Pricing System and Forest Carbon Offset Protocol, Ontario's EPS, Quebec's Cap-and-Trade system, Nova Scotia's Output-Based Pricing System, and Newfoundland and Labrador's Performance Standards System, among others. Each requires independent verification of emissions and compliance reports, and the specific rules vary by jurisdiction.
What Are the Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR)?
Canada's federal Clean Fuel Regulations require fuel producers and importers to reduce the carbon intensity of the gasoline and diesel they supply over time. Compliance is tracked through credits generated by qualifying projects and fuels, and those credits need independent verification before they can be used.
What Is OBPS Verification?
The Output-Based Pricing System is ECCC's carbon pricing program for large industrial emitters, including the electricity sector. Facilities covered by OBPS need their emissions data independently verified. We're accredited to provide that verification.
What Is Ontario's Emissions Performance Standards (EPS) Program?
Ontario's EPS is the province's own industrial carbon pricing system, similar in structure to the federal Output-Based Pricing System. Large emitters are assigned facility-specific performance standards and must have their annual emissions reports independently verified.
What Is the BC Forest Carbon Offset Protocol (FCOP)?
BC's FCOP is a distinct provincial protocol for quantifying carbon offsets generated by forestry activities, such as improved forest management and afforestation or reforestation projects. Offset credits generated under FCOP require independent verification before they can be issued or sold.
What Is Alberta's TIER Program?
The Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) Regulation is Alberta's industrial carbon pricing system for large emitters. It sets facility-specific emissions benchmarks, and facilities must have their compliance reports independently verified against those benchmarks each year.
